Present 46 Border Guard Battalion was raised on 08 January 1967 at Double Murring, Chittagong as the 14th Wing of the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR). After its formation, the battalion was deployed at RAMGARH at Chittagong Hill Tracts. It took active part during our war of liberation in 1971 and 37 members of this battalion made supreme sacrifices of their lives. After liberation this battalion was deployed in Chittagong Hill Tracts and took active part in counter Insurgency operation. Where two valiant soldairs (Sepoy Abul Halim and Sepoy Swkat) made supreme sacrifice of their lives during a frontal fight against Shanti Bahini (SB) at Marishya in 1983/1984. This battalion took active part against the Ansar mutiny at Shafipur and Khilgaon in 1994. In 1996 while deploy in Rajshahi it was rewarded as best battalion by Director General, Bangladesh Rifles for anti-smuggling operations. On 10 Febuary 1998 under the historic peace treaty Shanti Bahini surrendered arms under the direct supervision of this battalion. This battalion has performed its duty at RAMGARH, COMILLA, MARISHYA, SYLHET, DHAKA, RAJSHAHI, PANCHARI and DINAJPUR.
After liberation this battalion was renamed as46 Rifle battalionn and on 23 november 2010 again renamed as 46 Border Guard Battalion served with pride in various corner of Bangladesh :
