GENERAL INFORMATION AND HISTORY OF 23 BORDER GUARD BATTALION

1.       This Battalion was raised on 20 April 1976 at Halishahar, Chittagong. There after the Battalion was deploy in Cox’s Bazar, Waggachara, Dinajpur, Jaminipara, Sarail, Kaptai and Teknaf. During the unit’s tenure in Waggachara, in two separate actions with Shanti Bahini on 18 February 1984 and 18 June 1985. Sepoy Mohammad Hossain and Sepoy Md Atiar Rahman was killed in action. Shahid Atiar Counter Insurgency Operation camp was named as the honour of his secrifise.  

 

2.       Havilder Md Jafrul Islam received ‘Bangladesh Rifles Medal’ for his heroic anti smuggling observation post during the unit’s tenure in Teknaf. This battalion move to its present location in Khulna on 13 March 2008. The Battalion was the reserve battalion of Khulna Sector. From 20 October 2012 this Battalion took over the respect of six Border Operation Post, three each from Jessore and Satkhira Battalion having a 31 kilometer border of Sharsha Upazilla of Jessore District.

 

3.       After liberation this battalion was renamed as 23 rifle battalon and on 23 november 2010 again renamed as 23 Border Guard Battalion served with pride in various corner of Bangladesh :
