1.General information and History of the Battalion.
a.1 Border Guard Battalion was raised as “RAMGARH LOCAL BATTALION’’ on 29 June 1795. Since inception, this Battalion has sincerely been performing its assign duties in various field. This Battalion has historic heritage of long 218 years. 1 Border Guard Battalion has historic tradition of operation activities. It took part in historic “LUSAI OPERATON POST” in the year 1871, “LAXMIPUR OPERATION POST” in the year 1958 and “ASALONG OPERATION POST” in the year 1962. For extraordinary performance in “LUSAI OPERATION POST” the then Governor of Bengal highly praised about the Battalion. In “LAXMIPUR OPERATION POST” the then Battalion commander Major Mohammad Tofail Mahmud and Jamader Md Azam sacrificed their lives. TOFAIL NAGAR and AZAMPURRailway Station at AKHAURA Upazila the area of responsibility of SARAIL Battalion is named after Major Tofail Mahmud and Jamader Md Azam respectively. Name of gallantry award holders are shown below :
(1).Major Tofail was awarded Pakistan highest national gallantry award NISHAN -E- HAIDER.(2).Jamader Azam was awarded SITARA-E-JURAT.
b.This battalion has glorious history of participating in liberation war 1971. During its stay at Kotbari, Comilla this Battalion took part in the great war of liberation and in that the Battalion sacrificed 26 lives Name of gallantry award holders are shown below :
(1).Havilder Jumma Miah were awarded BIR BIKRAM.
(2).Sepoy Abul Bashar were awarded BIR BIKRAM.
(3).Sepoy Md Sharif was awarded BIR PRATIK.
2.After liberation this battalion was renamed as 1 Rifle Battalion and on 23 November 2010 again renamed as 1 Border Guard Battalion served in various corner of Bangladesh :
